A ship's mast honours Guernsey naval hero in Delancey Park

The Mast

A 100ft steel replica of HMS Victory's mast will be erected in Guernsey's Delancey Park, as a tribute to Admiral Lord James de Saumarez, if planners approve the temporary structure.

Saumarez is Guernsey's leading naval hero, who commanded the HMS Victory in battle from 1808-12.

Recreating the ship's mast memorial to the admiral is one of many regeneration projects the trust has started at the 16-acre park. A £120,000 playground was opened in July, and 2013 projects include an adult fitness trim trail, a Neolithic gallery grave display and a kitchen garden.
